Beginner's Acrylic Painting Workshop (Online Class)

Join landscape and portrait artist, Georgeanne Gaffney, and learn how to use acrylic paints. You will create your own color wheel, using primary and secondary colors along with white. No black paint is needed as you will learn how to make your own black. Georgeanne will teach you a variety of blending techniques, layering techniques. You will also learn how to use different sized and shaped brushes for a wide range of effects.

Materials:

Acrylic paints, solid body preferred. As everyone has different paints available to them, I recommend having your preferred primary and secondary colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple and White. NO BLACK. We will make our own “black”.

I used different colors depending on my mood and desired palette. For instance, sometimes I want my red to be Alizarin Crimson. Sometimes I prefer my red to be Cadmium Red. And so on……

  • A premade paint set can be used
  • Surface/Substrate: Pre-Primed or Gessoed Wood or Masonite
  • Jar for water
  • Water
  • Palette, can be glass, plastic or palette paper
  • Clean cloth or paper towels
  • Hairdryer
  • Brushes - Round tip and flat, small to medium

A Golden Bough (Online Class)

Join Cynthia Rosen for this workshop in oils using a blend of brush and palette knife (please let us know if you would like to see a different medium as well and Cynthia will try to honor that request!)

Suggested Materials (you do not need all of the exact colors Cynthia uses, but you can use whatever you have on your palette.)

Colors: Titanium White, Prussian Blue or Thalo Blue, Purple Dioxizine, Cobalt Blue or Ultramarine, Alizarin Permanent, Cadmium Red Medium, Cad Orange, Lemon Yellow or Cad Yellow Light.

(Note: If using acrylics, Cynthia suggests having some gesso on hand if your brand of white is not very opaque.)

Afternoon Paint Along: Spring Flowers (Online Class)

Take a midday tea or coffee break with painter Georgeanne Gaffney, aka Gigi, and paint spring flowers using a photo as your reference. Class will begin by learning how to make a color wheel, color mixing, and layering.  You will learn how to paint upside down and create a beautiful floral arrangement!

Architecture Painting Workshop (Online Class)

Thursday, April 29, 5:00-7:00pm EST, Advanced Beginner and Up 

This session, we will paint a bucolic farm scene! Kari will demonstrate the compositional sketch, initial block in, and painting finish using oil color. Along the way, she’ll discuss the challenges of successfully adding architecture to your landscape paintings!

Materials: Rigid painting panel 8”x10” aspect ratio with white surface we will be toning during class.

Oil Colors: White, Cool Yellow (Cadmium Yellow Light), Warm Yellow (Cadmium Yellow Medium), Cool Red (Quinacridone Red), Warm Red (Cadmium Red Medium), Blue (Ultramarine Blue), Blue (Cobalt Blue).

Brushes: An array of synthetic long and short flatspaper (or sketchbook).

Mineral Spirits and Paper Towels

Beginner Photography 2 (Online Class)

Tuesdays, May 4, 11, 18 & 25, 4:00-5:30pm EST

A series of 4 classes focusing on beginner composition techniques. It is best if students have a working knowledge of their camera including an understanding of the exposure triangle. Each class will include new instruction and homework designed to put into practice new knowledge. Images created will be reviewed in class for students to receive input and further guidance.

(Please note: This class is being offered in conjunction with other Art Centers in the state. Participants will be from around New York State and not limited to local LPCA students.)

Scene Study - Acting Classes with Beth Glover (Online)

Actor and Director Beth Glover will take you on a 5-week journey in scene study, allowing actors to deep-dive and explore different writers, styles and genres of scripts. We will quickly jump into breaking down and working on scenes using actual TV & Film scripts as well as theater plays.

Creating characters, telling their stories, and having a great time doing it are the order of the day!

Advanced Photography 8 Week Course (Online Class)

A free form photographic journey where each student is able to deep dive into a specific topic of photography that THEY select and are mentored through the discovery of. Each class will be an open discussion as well as a critique of the student's progress. This group dynamic will expose each student to other topics of discussion that may not directly relate to there’s but potentially give a new perspective or added insight into their own journey.

Beginner Photography 1 (Online Class)

 Wednesdays, May 5, 12, 19 & 26, 6:00-7:30pm EST

This 4 session class will help beginners learn the basic functions of their camera as well as the basis of ALL photography: the exposure triangle. Students will, through class instruction and a series of homework assignments, begin to master the use of shutter speed, aperture and ISO to take complete control of image creation.
