Intro to Still Life/Product Photography (Online Class)

Thursdays, May 6, 13, 20 & 27, 4:00-5:30pm EST

We will explore the differences and similarities between still life and product photography allowing students to have the experience of shooting both. We will cover professional equipment as well as tips, techniques and tricks to help you create wonderful images from what you have to work with. There will be demos to help students see the topics discussed in the real world.

(Please note: This class is being offered in conjunction with other Art Centers in the state. Participants will be from around New York State and not limited to local LPCA students.)

 

Beginner's Acrylic Painting Workshop (Online Class)

Thursday, May 6, 5:00-7:00pm EST

Join landscape and portrait artist, Georgeanne Gaffney, and learn how to use acrylic paints. You will create your own color wheel, using primary and secondary colors along with white. No black paint is needed as you will learn how to make your own black. Georgeanne will teach you a variety of blending techniques, layering techniques. You will also learn how to use different sized and shaped brushes for a wide range of effects.

Materials:

Acrylic paints, solid body preferred. As everyone has different paints available to them, I recommend having your preferred primary and secondary colors: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple and White. NO BLACK. We will make our own “black”.

I used different colors depending on my mood and desired palette. For instance, sometimes I want my red to be Alizarin Crimson. Sometimes I prefer my red to be Cadmium Red. And so on……

  • A premade paint set can be used
  • Surface/Substrate: Pre-Primed or Gessoed Wood or Masonite
  • Jar for water
  • Water
  • Palette, can be glass, plastic or palette paper
  • Clean cloth or paper towels
  • Hairdryer
  • Brushes- Round tip and flat, small to medium

Advanced Photo Editing 8 Week Course (Online Class)

Thursdays, May 6, 13, 20 & 27, June 10, 17, 24 & July 1, 6:00-7:30pm EST

Curves, Layers, Blending Modes, Masking… All things you must master in today's photographic world to bring your images to the next level. We will discuss these common tools available in software and apps to allow you to pull the most out of your images. Why’ll most of the class will be covering Lightroom and Photoshop we will venture into other apps and alternatives to these popular packages.

(Please note: This class is being offered in conjunction with other Art Centers in the state. Participants will be from around New York State and not limited to local LPCA students.)

A Simple Still Life (Online Class)

Join Cynthia Rosen for this workshop in oils using a blend of brush and palette knife (please let us know if you would like to see a different medium as well and Cynthia will try to honor that request!)

Suggested Materials (you do not need all of the exact colors Cynthia uses, but can use whatever you have on your palette.)

Colors: Titanium White, Prussian Blue or Thalo Blue, Purple Dioxizine, Cobalt Blue or Ultramarine, Alizarin Permanent, Cadmium Red Medium, Cad Orange, Lemon Yellow or Cad Yellow Light.

(Note: If using acrylics, Cynthia suggests having some gesso on hand if your brand of white is not very opaque)

Spring Has Sprung! Painting Workshop (Online Class)

Thursday, May 20, 5:00-7:00pm EST Advanced Beginner and Up 

Spring is here; the earth is waking up from the frozen winter and water is everywhere! This session, we will paint a dirt road temporarily serving as a stream bed. Kari will demonstrate the compositional sketch, initial block in, and painting finish using oil color. Along the way, she’ll discuss leading lines and cohesive color!

Materials:

  • Rigid painting panel square aspect ratio with white surface we will be toning during class.
  • Oil colors: White, Cool Yellow (Cadmium Yellow Light), Warm Yellow (Cadmium Yellow Medium), Cool Red (Quinacridone Red), Warm Red (Cadmium Red Medium), Prussian Blue and Cobalt Blue.
  • Mineral Spirits, Paper Towels, Brushes: an array of synthetic long and short, flats paper (or sketchbook), pencil and eraser.
  • Reference Photo printed out.

Afternoon Paint Along: Waterlillies (Online Class)

Take an afternoon tea or coffee break with painter, Georgeanne Gaffney, aka Gigi, and paint waterlilies using a photo as your reference. Class will begin by learning how to make a color wheel, color mixing and layering.  You will learn how to paint upside down and create a beautiful waterlily painting!
