Introduction to Nepalese Pulp-Painting I

$35

with Carol Marie Vossler

Calendar Aug 1, 2021 at 10 am

In-Person, Sunday, Aug 1, 10:00-11:00am for Adults AND kids ages 8+

During this 1-hour workshop you will be introduced to the wonder of pulp-painting! The various colored pulp is produced from recycled tee-shirts. This technique is inspired by the Nepalese paper makers who format their sheets by pouring liquid pulp into large screens that are submerged under water. The screens are then lifted out of the shallow basin and allowed to dry in the sun. Each participant will be guided through the basic process on how to pour different colored pulp into a submerged screen to create one Nepalese pulp-painting. The use of stencils and two acrylic colors of your choice will also be available to embellish the pulp-painting.  *Artworks will be available for pickup 24 hours after class ends.*

This class will be held outdoors, weather permitting. Please meet by the Ceramics Studio (the purple door) at the back of the theatre building.

with Samantha Yelle

Calendar Aug 2, 2021 at 2 pm, runs for 4 weeks

Ages: 7-12

Time: 2:00 – 3:00

Dates: 8/2, 8/9, 8/16, 8/23

Cost: $40 for the session

This class is an introduction to hoop dance. The aim is to build a strong foundation of basic movements with our hula hoops. From an established base it is easy learning to incorporate those movements into dance.

Every class will start with stretching to prepare our bodies for the rest of the session. Then, we warm-up our cores with waist hooping. In each class we cover a few fun tricks and review ways of inserting them into dance. As with most skills, the more time a student puts in with their hoop the easier learning becomes. Mastery of these tricks will often take practice outside of class.

The teacher instructs by demonstration, so the student will be following step-by-step verbal instructions with visual cues throughout the class.

This class does not require any prior knowledge and plenty of hoops are provided for use during class. Make sure to wear comfortable/supportive shoes and bring a bottle of water.
